Mexican Fiesta

Last night our friends threw a Mexican Fiesta at their house. As part of the party, they decided to hold a contest to see who had the best Mexican outfit. While everyone didn't dress up for the party, here is a picture of some of us who did.

Living in Mesa, Ryan and I had plenty of resources to do some in-depth research as to what the modern-day hispanic really wears. People were pretty shocked at how "authentic" I really looked. The pictures really don't do my whole "look" justice, but I guess it pays to look multiracial!

Me & Celeste

On our way to the party we had to stop by El Pollo Loco" to get some beans. It was so embarrassing having to walk in the restaurant dressed like we were. The sad thing is that I don't think anyone realized that we were "dressed up." (That is, until I started talking and didn't have any accent.)

The night was full of Pinata's, great Mexican food, and people trying all kinds of weird treats they thought would be a good addition to the party!

Once again, thanks for the great time Devyn and Celeste! You know how to throw a rockin' fiesta! Just let us know when you're throwing the asian-themed party and I'll be sure to look "authentic."

The Gene Machine

When we were at Dave & Buster's, they had a machine called "The Gene Machine." Ryan and I decided this would be a great opportunity to do a trial run and see what our kids would look like before giving it a go in the future. See the results below:

Hmm...maybe we should hold off on kids for
a while. (If this doesn't get our parents off
our back about kids, I don't know what will!)

Dave & Buster's

Ever since we first heard about Dave & Buster's, we've been dying to go. So last night we finally made it over there and had our night of gaming. We had a blast! I've gotta admit, that place is pretty amazing!

We didn't end up making the best deal.

One of Ryan's favorite games was a game where you have to roll your ball and make it into the hole in order to make your horse run faster and win the race. The entire time we were there, there was a little kid playing the game. He would offer a dollar to anyone who could beat him. When Ryan beat him on his first try, he offered Ryan the dollar. When Ryan refused to take it, the kid told him he was stupid for turning down the dollar when he had the chance. Ryan went on to beat the kid three out of four games, every time offering his dollar. I'm not sure whether Ryan liked playing the game or talking to the kid more. Let's just say that by the end of the night, Ryan had a new best friend.

We won some sweet prizes.

Girl's Night

Since moving back to AZ, we've been so busy I haven't gotten the chance to see many of my old friends. Last night I finally got the chance to meet up with some friends for a girls night. It was fun getting to catch up and hear what everyone is up to these days. Thanks to Hanna for getting everyone together. I promise that from here on out, I'll do a better job of keeping in touch with everyone!

Camelback Mountain

Since we're usually cooped up in offices all week long, we thought it would be nice to get outside this weekend. So this morning we went and hiked Camelback Mountain. For the record, that mountain looks tiny, but don't be deceived, it's a lot bigger than it looks. When hiking the mountain, there are 4 different trails you can choose. We chose one of the "expert" trails thinking that it would be a piece of cake. The hike was only about 1.2 miles each way, but it was straight uphill. It was basically like walking up huge stairs for 1.2 miles. I haven't had a workout that tough in a long time. I'm pretty sure my calf muscles tripled in size. Although we pretty much hated our lives the entire time, we're glad we did it. Next time we just won't go in the middle of the day in May.

Just Another Night In Mesa

Last night we were entertained by our crazy neighbor next door who was arguing with her son. Since her front door is about 5 feet from our own, we always get to enjoy their family drama. Last night they spent several hours going up and down the stairs yelling and slamming doors. But just when we thought the drama was over, it got a little more interesting.

Soon after we woke up this morning, we got a knock on our door. When we answered it, we were greeted by several officers from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. Apparently, our neighbor was heard to be harboring a guy who has a warrant out for his arrest (The sad thing is that this wasn't the first time the cops have come to our door at this apartment). After asking us a couple questions, the officers went across the hall and proceeded to knock on the neighbors door. After our neighbor wouldn't answer, they and several more cops surrounded the apartment and threatened to break down the door. After a while, she finally came to the door and they searched her apartment. We don't think they found the guy, but it was pretty crazy watching the drama through our peep hole. Who needs to go to the movies when we've got free entertainment right here at home?! I think it's probably time to get out of Mesa!

Wii Night

One thing that we've noticed about living back in Arizona, is that it seems like everything is EXPENSIVE! After going on several expensive dates, we decided to do an old fashioned group date night with some of our friends. On Saturday night, we went to the store and bought ingredients and toppings for homemade pizzas. We came back to our apartment and each couple made their own pizza and we played Nintendo Wii. We rented a new Wii game which we totally love and had some amazing homemade ice cream. Altogether, the night turned out great. I guess it just goes to show that you really don't have to spend a lot to have a fun time!

After accidentally hitting his date during a game of tennis, Rob was banished to his own corner for the remainder of the game.

For the record, I'm actually pretty good at Wii Tennis. I blame it on the fact that I had to play with Rob's Mii character instead of my own.

D-Backs Game

On Friday night we went to the Diamondbacks game with Mark and Rob. (Yup, that's right, just me and 3 boys.) I'm sure the boys were disappointed that I was there when I turned down an offer from a scalper for better seats, but I just have this weird thing where I'd rather spend $25 bucks on dinner than seats closer to the field. In the end, the Diamondbacks won and it was great getting to watch the game in the perfect AZ weather!

Starting Real Life

Since graduating, it seems like everyone wants to know what's next for us. So here's the rundown... For those who don't know, Ryan majored in Construction Management and I majored in Business Management. As of next Monday, Ryan will begin his new job with Intel Corporation as a Project Manager. In the position, he will be managing a wide variety of construction projects within the company. We're pretty excited as it's tough to find a job in construction management with normal work hours. Ryan's pretty excited to start, especially since he can wear jeans and a t-shirt to work, work from home every once in a while, and Intel allows him to have a flexible work schedule.

On that same note, I will soon start my new job working for SubmitAWebsite.com as a PPC Manager. (I'm sure most of you are wondering what the heck a PPC Manager does.) Since my background is in online marketing, I decided to go that route for a career. Let's just say that it deals with online marketing and the management of search engine accounts with Google and Yahoo. Since online marketing is such a difficult field to get into, this is definitely a great opportunity with a lot of potential for growth in the future.

Luckily, we have 2 weeks to relax before we begin the new jobs. We've definitely been cherishing these weeks of vacation before it's officially time for us to start real life.

Little Surprises

After 3 years of freezing in Idaho, we are officially warm again! On Thursday we made the long drive from Rexburg to AZ and on Friday we got moved into our new apartment. We absolutely love being able to go outside without having to bundle up!

Before moving back to AZ, we seriously searched for months for a good deal on an apartment. It was tough to find a place that would work for us since we want to get into a house in the next 6 months. Apparently, apartments expect you to pay a lot more if you want a short lease. So when a friend (thanks Celeste) told us that her old apartment was available, we jumped on it as it's a super smokin' deal. Although the apartment is older, it'll save us a lot of money as most of the utilities are included. However, since moving in, we continue to find more and more surprises. Here are a few of the surprises we've found SO FAR:

1. No baseboards in any of the carpeted rooms (only in the kitchen and bathrooms)
2. No lights (Yep, that's right, there's only lights in the kitchen and bathrooms)
3. No microwave (I went to heat up some food yesterday, only to realize that we don't have a microwave. It's sad that it took us almost 2 days to realize this one)

Don't get me wrong, overall, we like the apartment and it should work out well. Hopefully we just won't have too many more surprises. But it's a fun adventure living in a new place and we're excited to see what new surprises each day will bring. So stay tuned, you never know what new surprises will pop up next!
